Pikelet Pictures was established in 2023 by co-founders Jessica Smith and Scarlett Koehne in anticipation of their first joint project, Videoland. Jess and Scarlett both have years of experience in the film and television industry and met while working together in the production department on the Netflix limited series Clickbait

MEET THE COMPANY DIRECTORS

JESSICA SMITH

Jess is a Melbourne-based filmmaker with 15 years industry experience. Her credits include Scream 4, My Life Is Murder, Mustangs FC, Clickbait, Shantaram and The Clearing. Jess has been selected for two VicScreen director’s attachments; in 2023 she shadowed Academy Award winner Peter Farrelly on Ricky Stanicky and earlier this year she completed her second rotation in the program at Neighbours, solo directing an episode of the iconic Australian soap. Her short film, The Test, enjoyed a hugely successful run on the festival circuit and now has over half a million views on YouTube and her new series Videoland premiered in competition at Series Mania in March 2024, winning the prize for Best Comedy Series. A proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Jess is dedicated to promoting inclusion & increasing visibility on screen by producing engaging and relatable queer & female-focused stories.

SCARLETT KOEHNE

Scarlett is a producer who pivoted away from law and toward television production and producing early in her career. Since then she has worked across large-scale scripted, factual and reality shows, including; Clickbait, Books That Made Us, Bondi Vet, La Brea and House of Wellness. Scarlett produced Screen Australia funded web-series, Loving Captivity, which was officially selected for Sydney Web Fest and won Best Series at London Web Fest, and is excited to grow her slate of original projects with Pikelet Pictures in the coming years. As an advocate of her totally blind toddler, she is dedicated to the inclusion and celebration of people with disability on our screens and in our stories, as well as equal access to meaningful careers for working mothers in the screen production industry.
